About WMU CTE
The CTE teacher education program at WMU prepares individuals to become teachers of middle and high school-level business, marketing, family and consumer sciences, or industrial technology. Our graduates find rewarding careers teaching CTE courses at schools all around the country. Students who major in business or marketing education will be qualified to teach business-related courses such as finance, sports and entertainment marketing, entrepreneurship, computer applications, accounting, computer animation, and business management. Those who major in family and consumer sciences will be qualified to teach courses such as health and nutrition, culinary arts, and early childhood development and care. Industrial technology majors will be qualified to teach a wide variety of courses depending on their specialization. Everything from welding, automotive technology and repair, cosmetology, construction trades, and computer-aided drafting fall within this content area.
At the graduate level, we offer a post-baccalaureate master’s degree program that allows an individual with bachelor’s degrees in teachable CTE major to become a certified CTE teacher. Additionally, we offer a master’s degree in CTE with an instruction or leadership focus. Lastly, we offer a Ph.D. in educational leadership with a concentration in CTE.
